Profession: Architect City: Kuala Lumpur Country: Malaysia
What inspired you to want a life in Architecture and the creative industries?: I’ve always been a fan of drawing. During high school.. I decided to take both the science and art subjects (which rarely happens) and in the end.. I made it work! So it made me realise that I can’t live a life with purely science or even purely art. Architecture is a field that allows me to express that.
Who inspired you in finding your path to Architecture/Film and the creative industries?: Honestly.. it was the people around me, whether they realise it or not.
How you unlock obstacles and overcome bias in your work?: Coming from a multiracial country like Malaysia.. I guess we are trained to overcome bias of at least identify them easily. So the way I do it is to look for a middle ground or a compromise.
What improvements do you feel are required to promote effective change in the academic and working environment?: A lot of things. For instance.. we should at least be equipped with the necessary tools one would need for the working world. I understand that architecture education is supposed to inspire you to think or shape the way you see design.. but there should be a balance. Because at the end of a day, a good architect should also have knowledge on business and engineering in order to survive or even thrive.
