Profession: Architecture trainee City: London Country: United Kingdom
What inspired you to want a life in Architecture and the creative industries?: I was introduced to the profession through a tv show where the architect spoke to a client and came up with a design that impressed the client. I realised that i wanted to create in this same way myself. I think that the way architects problem solve and and make decisions is artistic so i want a life in this industry as well.
Who inspired you in finding your path to Architecture/Film and the creative industries?: Like I stated before it was based of a TV show i watched a child about an architect designing treehouses. But my aunt who is an architect inspired me to go even further with my dream.
How you unlock obstacles and overcome bias in your work?: I am still quite new to the architecture industry myself but what seems to be working for me so far is surrounding myself you the right people. People that are actively aware of the gap in architecture from people coming from non traditional backgrounds and are keen on changing this. Through i have access to the support i need.
What improvements do you feel are required to promote effective change in the academic and working environment?: I think bridging the gap between school and work would be a great start because architecture students are taught to create with the sky being the limit but often find it disappointing when they get into practice and things are not quite the same. Often their favourite part is the design element and in practice that is not always a common part of an architect’s day to day.
