Profession: Architectural Assistant
City: London
Country: United Kingdom

What inspired you to want a life in Architecture and the creative industries?:
I’ve always enjoyed art and the idea of making and the tactility and freedom that comes along with it, how different people can respond or react to the same colour, pattern, space and the ways in which our perception of these spaces is influenced or can be a reflection of our own cultures, identity and lived experience. So for me architecture became the outlet and a space that would allow me to explore and engage with these ideas

Who inspired you in finding your path to Architecture/Film and the creative industries?:
I was inspired by my parents. They have always encouraged me to pursue what I’m passionate about rather than chasing a particular status or role, or just chasing money and that allowed me to really discover my joy in architecture and design

How you unlock obstacles and overcome bias in your work?:
I try to let my work speak for itself, rather than forcing people to see what I’m seeing necessarily and am always interesting in understanding and knowing other people’s interpretations and perceptions of my work. This helps me to shift my perspective from just my view and start to see it from the lens of others which helps to overcome the biases I have taken on based on my own lived experience

What improvements do you feel are required to promote effective change in the academic and working environment?:
I think that in the working environment there needs to be a lot more flexibility in terms of the way people work and a change in the culture of being expected to work extremely long hours without that being reflected in terms of the value of the work we produce. I also believe there needs to be a lot more collaboration across disciplines, cultures and communities to ensure that we design in a way that is sensitive to people’s ways of living, their cultures, identities and histories. In the academic environment again more collaboration across disciplines to cultivate new ideas and new approaches to the challenges we face in today’s current global climate
