Profession: Landscape Architect

Country: United Kingdom

What inspired you to want a life in Architecture and the creative industries?:

I can’t pinpoint my first interest in the creative industries, however, I can say that I have always been a creative. From drawing since my earliest memories, to studying architecture at university. What made me really fall in love with architecture was moving to Copenhagen, Denmark. This opened my eyes to a new approach to design, which I have grown to appreciate deeply.

Who inspired you in finding your path to Architecture/Film and the creative industries?:
I think my biggest inspiration has been Korean film, which led to Korean culture. I am extremely interested in the approach to the Korean design, how they value not just the exterior looks, but also the personal feelings behind it. This is valued across all forms of daily skills in Korea that define someone. I take this approach with me in design, even more so after spending 6 months in Korea taking in the culture and values.

How you unlock obstacles and overcome bias in your work?:
I personally appreciate bias in my work. I love taking critiscm from others, especially those who have the years and knowledge behind the critiscm to base it off. This is somewhere where I realise I grow the most.

What improvements do you feel are required to promote effective change in the academic and working environment?:
I feel as though a strong approach in diversity in the field. There is a term I love called “twoness”, which I believe was coined or interpreted by Walter Hood, a black landscape architect. An understanding in this idea of minorities in architecture will help push this profession forward.
