He said he would do it; he did what he said; now he wears Harvard’s crimson red.

Yes, that’s right! As the oldest academic institution in the U.S., founded in 1636 and renowned for cultivating innovative discovery, global reach, and the development of influential leaders and critical thinkers, I am thrilled and deeply honored to announce that I will officially join Harvard University this fall as a student in the Master of Architecture program with the Graduate School of Design.

This opportunity is truly a dream come true and marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in my life! Because Harvard has always felt like home – a place of endless possibilities, passionate hearts, collaborative spirits, and vibrant community – I feel incredibly blessed to be attending on a full ride and as a Dean’s Merit Scholar.

In acknowledging this achievement, I recognize that it is not an overnight success, but rather the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, focus, perseverance, faith amidst risk-taking, and the understanding that our potential is not defined by our origins or the expectations of others. In this new endeavor, I eagerly anticipate further exploring my interests, challenging conventional practices, and, through continued travel and experiences, allow the world to become an extension of my classroom. The creative laboratory that is Harvard GSD is the perfect environment to help me explore such ventures alongside esteemed faculty and my cohort of talented peers from around the world.

Among God’s given gifts, as He is the Creator Himself, I’m grateful to share in this power of creativity and creation that I discovered in my younger years, repurposing and transforming random household finds into new structures and expansive worlds that redefined the confines of my small apartment called home. Beyond my wildest dreams, I never thought that my nine-year-old declaration to become an architect would lead me here. Yet, I am well on my way to achieving that goal and becoming a part of the growing number of Black architects – 3% – that represent the profession.

I would like to personally thank all of you, family, friends, colleagues and the community for your unwavering support over the years as it has meant so much to me. As I embark on this new journey with the hope of inspiring others to forever chase their dreams, I am excited for what lies ahead as the best is yet to come.
