Architect, London, UK

What inspired you to want a life in Architecture and the creative industries?
I always had a passion for design and architecture seemed like a profession in which I could pursue my creative interests.

Who inspired you in finding your path to Architecture and the creative industries?
Family members, although without applying any pressure, heavily influenced my decision to look for a creative job that worked with the built environment. Along the way I feel grateful to have had several mentors who have been incredibly generous with their time.

How you unlock obstacles and overcome bias in your work?
Thorough research and actively seeking out different points of view. Engaging with local experts as often as possible to challenge preconceptions of place, particularly in relation to projects, is always a great opportunity to realise where bias is embedded.

What improvements do you feel are required to promote effective change in the academic and working environment?
Better visibility of education pathways, as well as a greater variety of pathways – such as the apprenticeship route, which appears to be very popular with young people I encounter. Fundamentally, if by change we mean greater diversity, in many senses of the word, we need improved salaries and working conditions alongside new education routes.
