Profession: Architecture Student
City: London/Cambridge
Country: United Kingdom
What inspired you to want a life in Architecture and the creative industries?:
I have always had the creative drive and passion to move beyond the boundaries set up by the world we live in, through my curiosity in both the real and virtual world surrounding us, I found Architecture as a way of expressing this curiosity, and turning it into a solution in order to create an inclusive and sustainable environment.
Who inspired you in finding your path to Architecture/Film and the creative industries?:
I was so lucky to have a such supporting mentors, allowing me to step foot into the creative world. Members of my family, such as my mother, Saira, my Aunt Amina and my Cousin, Amir Behan, aswell as my secondary school teacher Neil Pinder were extremely crucial in getting me where I am today.
How you unlock obstacles and overcome bias in your work?:
I like to remind myself that I am unique in this environment, and I shouldn’t have to change myself and my background in order to fit into this standard, especially being part of the global majority. Stand out, use struggle as a fuel to be the best you can be, and don’t be afraid to take risks in order to make yourself known.
What improvements do you feel are required to promote effective change in the academic and working environment?:
I think expanding projects into lesser known areas in order to expose others to design techniques and cultures that can provide an insight into different spaces, bringing in lectures and Tutors of different backgrounds in order to have someone to relate to. Aswell as this, encouraging POC students and teens into the creative field, as I feel this is looked down upon heavily.
